Here’s an interesting development over at Disney+. According to the trade newspaper Variety, the streamer is set to introduce IMAX quality to some of its titles later this year.
They will ‘add support for enhanced IMAX signature sound by DTS for a select batch of Marvel movies and other titles’ in 2023.’, so says the trade. Obviously, users will have to have the relevant hardware to decode the sound to enjoy it fully, but this is great news for home cinema aficionados.
Disney has already released movies on the platform with the much bigger screen IMAX visuals but this is a huge move forward for sound. Thirteen Marvel movies display the expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio which delivers up to 26% more on-screen picture for select sequences.
