Slot games inspired by TV and film

Gaming has been a popular way to spend your free time for centuries. In fact, the first evidence of gaming taking place was back in ancient China where evidence of what appears to be games of chance was discovered. So, it should come as no surprise that gaming is still as popular now as it was then – probably more so.

Casino games have become one of the most popular gaming niches online. One of the most popular casino games to play online are slot games, due to their easy gameplay. A favorable element of slot games is the fact that they all have different themes. These make it a lot more exciting to play, especially when they feature one of your favorite films or TV shows.

We’ll be taking you through some of the most popular slot games inspired by TV and films but first, let’s see where our love for slot games all began.

History of slot games

Way back in 1891, the mechanism that provided us with the slot machine was invented. This was created in the form of an automated game of poker called the Card Machine. There were 50 levers with every card from a deck of cards painted on it – missing out the jokers.

The player would pop a coin in the slot and the machines would turn the reels and 5 cards would be selected at random. If you managed to land on a winning hand, you would be rewarded by the bar keep with a free drink or cigarette as your prize.

The mechanism for automatic payout hadn’t been invented yet. Plus, poker is a little too complicated to establish what would constitute a win or not.

The Card Machine might have started the ball rolling with automated games, but it was Charles August Fey who invented the slot machine we know and love today.

In 1898, Fey built a coin operated slot machine called the Card Bell. This was the first three-reel slot machine with the addition of an automatic cash payout. The players no longer had to put up with just a drink or a cigarette as a prize. You could now win your money back – plus some extra to put in your pocket!

Until the internet became commonplace, no one update the mechanism in the slot machine. The same mechanism that Fey invented has always been used in slot machines. The only thing that changed were the pictures on the slot machine.

The Liberty Bell was invented by Fey in 1899 as an updated version of the Card Bell. It was called the Liberty Bell because the best jackpot was won by getting three bells in a row.
