Festival fave ‘Cowboys’ gets a trailer ahead of a digital release

The film will premiere on digital in May.

Here’s a trailer from the festival circuit that I really rather like. Cowboys had its world premiere last year and played at various festivals all over the world, including BFI Flare, Tribeca, and most recently Glasgow. The film has already had a release stateside but will land here in May courtesy of Blue Finch Releasing. The film revolves around a father and his trans son who run off into the Montana wilderness. It really is worth checking out.

Cowboys is releasing on digital download from 7th May and it will also be available on Curzon Home Cinema.

Here’s the synopsis: Troy (Steve Zahn, Dallas Buyers Club, Lean on Pete) is on a camping trip with his transgender son Joe (Sasha Knight), an 11-year-old with a passion for cowboy yarns and the great outdoors. As they travel through the majestic beauty of the northern Rockies, television news reports emerge claiming that Joe is missing. As detective Faith (Ann Dowd, The Handmaid’s Tale) investigates, we see a bigger picture involving Joe’s conservative mother Sally (Jillian Bell, Brittany Runs a Marathon) and her inability to let go of the little girl she loves.

I reviewed the film a couple of months ago saying in my round-up that is a ‘brilliantly acted, ultimately uplifting, sweet drama that manages to engross throughout.’ You can check out the full review here.

Here’s the new trailer as well some new art for the movie. Do seek it out if you can.
