Glasgow FrightFest 2021 was one of the last in-person film festivals before the world closed down. The event was also host to the world premiere of writer and director Adam Stovall’s debut feature, A Ghost Waits. Played out in monochrome, A Ghost Waits joins handyman Jack, played by MacLeod Andrews, as he attends his latest custodial gig. The rental property he has been sent to is unlike any other, and has a history of not retaining its tenants for very long. Jack quickly discovers the culprit is a woman called Muriel, a woman that is actually a spectral agent charged with ensuring the house stays empty. Instead of running for the hills, Jack finds himself drawn to Muriel and it soon becomes clear they may have more in common than either of them realise.
With echoes of Beetlejuice and Ghost, A Ghost Waits hides a deeper darkness and an impactfully emotional ending. It’s an impressive debut and one that I’ve thought back on several times during the last year. We weren’t the only ones to be wowed as Arrow Video have snapped up the distribution rights. A Ghost Waits will first arrive digitally via their Arrow Video Channel, before releasing on Blu-ray later in the year. Ahead of the release we spoke with Adam Stovall to find out just how he brought this incredibly personal story to life.
A Ghost Waits is premiering exclusively on ARROW in the UK, US and Canada via www.ARROW-Player.com
