Trailer: ‘The Painted Bird’ documentary ’11 Colours Of The Bird’

The feature length doc. will be on the forthcoming home release for The Painted Bird.

Here’s a first-look trailer for The Painted Bird documentary accompaniment, 11 Colours Of The Bird. The film is a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible 11-year process it took director Václav Marhoul to create the film version of Jerzy Kosi?ski’s controversial novel. The feature-length documentary will feature on the Blu-ray edition of The Painted Bird, scheduled for release in the UK as a part of the Eureka Entertainment’s Montage Pictures range from 16 November 2020. The first print run of 1000 copies will include a Limited-edition Slipcase and Collector’s Booklet.

The Painted Bird is the story of a lone Jewish boy wandering through a cruel obstacle course of survival and abuse in Eastern Europe at the end of World War II.

The documentary 11 Colours Of The Bird offers a unique view behind the curtain of this exceptional work, which has left its mark on European and world festivals. And it’s not a look that’s cruel or black-and-white or silent.

The narratives of director Václav Marhoul and (non) actor Petr Kotlár weave their way through the various periods of the film’s creation, offering their subjective views from the beginning to the last flap of a year and a half long shoot. Sometimes smiley, sometimes hard…

The familiar faces of world cinema (Udo Kier, Stellan Skarsgård, Harvey Keitel, Julian Sands and Barry Pepper) also reveal their contribution to The Painted Bird. Thanks to a kind but inexorably open narrative, divided into eleven chapters, the viewer becomes another member of the film crew.
