We know. It’s just what we never always wanted. Yes, a prequel series to The Big Bang Theory is being planned. The Big Bang Theory prequel is said to be being developed as a spin-off and will revolve around Jim Parsons’ character, Sheldon Cooper.

News reaches us from the pages of Variety who state that Parsons is attached to executive produce alongside Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro, though probably won’t star in the lead role of Sheldon as the new series will follow his younger years. The trade adds that the original show’s co-creator/exec producer Bill Prady is likely to be on board as an exec producer too.

The Big Bang Theory burst onto our screens in 2007 and is still running. If you’ve been living under a rock for the nine years it has been polluting our screens, here’s the official plot.

Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, may be able to tell everybody more than they want to know about quantum physics, but getting through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women, totally baffles them. How lucky, then, that babe-alicious waitress/aspiring actress Penny moves in next door. Frequently seen hanging out with Leonard and Sheldon are friends and fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Will worlds collide? Does Einstein theorize in the woods?

The Big Bang Theory spin-off is in very early stages of development, but the trade does point out that they are nearing a script deal for the show – so do expect this on screens at some point in the near future. Warner Bros. and CBS are backing it.

We’ll bring you more news on The Big Bang Theory prequel series as it flies into our radar.
