Jackie Chan will be amongst the vocal cast of The Nut Job 2, the sequel to The Nut Job which delighted audiences back in 2014.
The Nut Job grossed $120 million around the world from a $42 million budget, so a sequel was a no brainer commercially. The story revolved round a squirrel named Surly (Will Arnett) who, after accidentally destroying the winter food supply of his fellow Liberty Park residents, is banished to the streets of Oakton. Luckily, Surly finds the town’s nut shop and hatches a plan to plunder its bounty. However, unbeknown to Surly and his ragtag team of animal associates, the nut shop is really a front for mobsters who plan to rob the bank next door. While Surly and his team break in to the shop, the mobsters carry out their own scheme.
In The Nut Job 2, the evil mayor of Oakton decides to bulldoze Liberty Park and build a dangerous amusement park in its place. Surly and his ragtag group of animal friends need to band together to save their home, defeat the mayor, and take back the park.
Chan will play Mr. Feng, the highly territorial leader of a gang of city mice. He may look cute and friendly, but beneath his fuzzy exterior lies a fierce and menacing master of Kung-Fu, and behind his big, but beady eyes, a weapon of mouse destruction bent on protecting his turf from any and all trespassers, so says the official blurb.
“We’re happy to announce the addition of Jackie Chan to the cast of ‘The Nut Job 2,’” director Cal Brunker said. “Jackie brings a unique voice to our movie, and it’s a real joy to be working with such a talented, award-winning actor and cultural icon.”
Katherine Heigl and Maya Rudolph are also amongst the cast.
The Nut Job 2 will open in cinemas on May 17th, 2107.
