In an interview with “Opie With Jim Norton Show” on SiriusXM just yesterday, Ricky Gervais revealed that he has sold his next film, Life On The Road, a spin-off of his hit TV show The Office, to Netflix.
The news comes following the release of Special Correspondents, which debuted on the streaming service earlier this year.
“This is exciting news and this is top secret, so I’m going to say it now. Netflix has bought out the rest of the world again,” Gervais said. “Which is great for me, because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it in cinemas, do you know what I mean? Because I want to do tours off the back of it. So for me, it’s great.”
eOne are actually releasing the film over in the UK, and it has set an August bow.

As he assembles a group of mercenary session musicians, a talented sidekick for street cred and an overpriced yet underwhelmed tour manager, he embarks upon a self-financed UK tour coming to a venue near every major city near you.
Ricky Gervais says, “I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than The Office ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”
