New ‘Power Rangers’ Image Reveals First Look At New Costumes

A new image from Saban’s Power Rangers reboot has arrived and reveals the first look at the team’s new costumes.

Entertainment Weekly debuted the new image from Project Almanac director Dean Israelite‘s forthcoming reboot and it gives us our first look at the iconic team in their costumes and they’re certainly very colourful. It seems as though the studio want a more high-tech and, almost futuristic, look for their eponymous team of heroes, rather than the more traditional look that we all grew up and are all familiar with.

Being the big fan of the Power Rangers that I was growing up, I can’t say I’m loving the new look; the costumes look more like alien-like, exoskeleton suits than anything else. However, the suits certainly are vibrant. It’ll be interesting to see how it looks in the finished product, alongside Elizabeth Banks‘ crazy-looking Rita Repulsa. When discussing the Rangers’ new look with EW, Israelite said the following, “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis. These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

Production designer on the film, Andrew Menzies added, “It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

Power Rangers stars Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repusla, with Becky G, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler and Naomi Scott making up our Rangers. The film will hit cinemas on March 23rd, 2017.
