Captain Phasma in Episode 8? Gwendoline Christie confirms the return of the Stormtrooper leader in the next Star Wars movie.
One of the more disappointing things about J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the limited screen time of Gwendoline Christie‘s Captain Phasma. Well, fans of the silver-finish Stormtrooper leader rejoice as the actress has revealed that a return is planned for Captain Phasma in Episode 8.

A Captain Phasma return in Episode 8 sounded like a far-flung dream after her destiny was seemingly sealed in the latter stages of the first of the planned trilogy of sequels. Towards the end of The Force Awakens, Phasma was ‘sentenced to death’ by trash compactor after being captured by Finn, Han Solo and Chewie etc. on the Star Killer base. Well, at this past weekend’s SAG Awards in Los Angeles, Christie confirmed her return for the next film, which apparently starts shooting in London later this month.
“I will be in the next Star Wars movie,” Christie, who also stars in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, said to People.
“I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time,” she said. “And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.”
“I thought the costume was incredibly striking. I also just liked this notion of a female stormtrooper.”
The return of Captain Phasma in Episode 8 is yet to be confirmed by anyone at Disney or Lucasfilm, but we’ll take Christie’s word for it. Let’s hope she’s given more time to shine in the upcoming sequel, which is written and directed by Looper filmmaker Rian Johnson.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be release on DVD and Blu-Ray on April 5th.
