Kevin Smith To Direct An Episode Of ‘The Flash’

Kevin Smith The Flash

Throughout his diverse career in the Film industry, cult director Kevin Smith has always had a strong connection to the DC Universe. Not only did Smith provide the screenplay for Tim Burton’s unmade Superman Lives, but he has also contributed to one of the most memorable Green Arrow storylines in comic book history. On top of that he is also close personal friends with our current Batman himself…Ben Affleck.

Now, with that in mind it should come as some extremely exciting news that Smith has just signed on to direct an episode of The Flash! This is great for both fans of the show, as well as fans of the eccentric film maker. With productions such as Dogma, Clerks and Tusk under his belt, it’s clear that Smith will bring a unique visual aesthetic to his episode in May.

You can take a look at what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say regarding the announcement below:

I literally got a phone call from his agent saying, ‘Kevin Smith’s favorite show is The Flash’ and was there an episode for him and the answer was ‘yes.’ It was really that simple. I know what a fan he is. I’m such a huge fan of his work. And it was funny because I just watched The Death of Superman Lives, it was serendipitous having him in my head again. I loved the movie Dogma and the show Reaper too, which he directed the pilot for. And obviously there’s a good deal of publicity that comes with this and as responsible executive producers we have to look at that. But we would never look at that at the expense of our own show. Knowing the scrutiny that the episode is going to be under, I know he’s going to bring it to his fullest.’

After the CW have already reached enormous success with both Arrow and The Flash over the past year (not to mention the hype surrounding this month’s upcoming spinoff Legends of Tomorrow), this will surely be yet another win for the network.

With Warner Bros. currently building its big screen DC empire, as well as the enormously successful television universe beginning to unfold, it’s certainly is a good time to be a DC Comics fan!
