Legally Blonde 3 could happen: Reese Witherspoon wants to do it.
Legally Blonde 3 could happen, if Reese Witherspoon gets her way.
It has been a long time sine Legally Blonde first hit our screens. It was 2001 when the original movie came out, and now 14 years, one sequel and a hit musical later, we may be getting another movie as it seems that Reese Witherspoon is ready to do a Legally Blonde 3. There’s nothing specific in the pipeline at MGM, but we’re sure they would be pretty keen now that Witherspoon wants in.
The Oscar-winner appeared on Lifetime’s Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe, where she spoke about a the chance of us seeing Legally Blonde 3 quite soon.
“A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is, to get more women. And I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office.” She said.
The original Legally Blonde revolved around a blonde sorority queen who is dumped by her boyfriend, who decides to follow him to law school to get him back and, once there, learns she has more legal savvy than she ever imagined. The movie spawned a sequel, Legally Blonde: Red White and Blonde, which followed Reese’s character of Elle Woods to Washington D.C. to join the staff of a congresswoman in order to pass a bill to ban animal testing. That was released in 2003. Yes, that long ago.
The Legally Blonde musical was created in 2007, and has played in London, New York, Australia and more. Sheridan Smith, one of the UK’s biggest actresses played the role of Elle in the West End production. It was nominated for many Tony awards and collected an Olivier in London for Best Musical.
