It’s a good time for the movie industry as it continues to expand beyond the usual and true-life inspired stories are definitely in favour. Up next in that genre is Freeheld, the story of Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) and Stacie Andree (Ellen Page) and their fight for justice.
The film is based on the Oscar-winning short documentary and has been adapted for the big screen by Ron Nyswaner, writer of Philadelphia (1993). It follows Laurel, who is diagnosed with cancer and wants to leave her pension to her domestic partner, Stacie. However county officials, or Freeholders, continue to prevent them from doing so.

Freeheld also co-stars the excellent pairing of Michael Shannon and Steve Carell who help Laurel and Stacie’s defence as they fight for basic civil rights and equality. Here’s your posters:
Freeheld is directed by Peter Sollett and opens in the US on 2nd October with dates in the UK to be confirmed.
