A Bad Boys 3 movie could be written and directed by Joe Carnahan, the filmmaker who brought us the likes of The Grey, Smokin’ Aces and The A-Team movie.

We love Bad Boys here at THN, and can’t believe that Michael Bay hasn’t serviced us with one since 2003. Now it looks like the challenge of putting a Bad Boys 3 movie onto the screen has fallen to The Grey director Joe Carnahan who is in very early talks to write and direct.

The filmmaker, who also brought us that rather brilliant Narc movie many years ago, will actually rewrite David Guggenheim‘s ‘strong draft’ for a potential Bad Boys 3 movie for producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Deadline, who broke the story, reveal that this could be Will Smith‘s next movie following his work on the Suicide Squad movie over at Warner Bros.

Martin Lawrence, who shared top-billing with Smith in the previous Bad Boys movies, is also expected to reprise his role in any forthcoming Bad Boys 3 movie. The actor was recently interviewed about the project, and gave some very positive feedback on movement behind the scenes.

“I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said its real, they’re working on the script, they’re getting close and it all looks good.”

The original films, released in 1995 and 2003, revolved around two bickering cops who are have to balance battling bad guys on the streets of Miami, as well as their own, and indeed very different personal circumstances at home. Tea Leoni starred alongside the pair in the first film.

If a Bad Boys 3 movie is the next one to go for Smith, we could see it arrive in cinemas next year, which is really exciting news for us and Sony, who could really do with a hit.
