Matt Damon had a rough ride up in space in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar last year, so you’d think the last thing he’d want to do is suit up and blast off again. However that’s exactly what he’s done, heading to the Red Planet under the direction of another cinematic visionary – Ridley Scott.
People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly have released a capsule full of snaps from the upcoming adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel The Martian, following astronaut/nut Mark Watney. He becomes trapped on Mars after a storm, and a Robinson Crusoe-esque tale unfolds as Earth unites behind an audacious attempt to bring him back. Check out the sandy goodness below…
If you’re going to go to one of the harshest environments in the galaxy, it may as well be with Scott, who certainly knows how to line a lens!
Here Damon is understandably depressed. Not only is he stranded on an alien world, he’s just realized he sat on a tube of super glue.
The movie shows Damon’s Watney struggling to adapt to his new and hopefully temporary home. Here he is tugging at some weird-looking plantlife.
A cooler-looking Kristen Wiig awaits news of Watney, who becomes a worldwide phenomenon in his absence.
Damon ponders his fate. As will audiences when The Martian hits the big screen in November. Adapted by Drew Goddard, it co-stars Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.
