KING KONG origin tale, SKULL ISLAND, is set to have a rewrite from the writer of FLIGHT, John Gatins. Gatins received an Academy Award nomination for his alcoholic pilot tale, and has also given us REEL STEEL and NEED FOR SPEED. Granted, the last two weren’t particularly great, but that’s probably because the titles rhymed. Max Borenstein, the man behind this year’s wonderful GODZILLA, wrote the original screenplay, so perhaps Gatins is charged with adding some more monster action or maybe a little extra character.
SKULL ISLAND will go up against DOCTOR STRANGE in 2016, and will star Marvel alumni Tom Hiddleston. Directing this origin tale of how Kong came to be and the island he inhabits, will be Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who gave us KINGS OF SUMMER. Vogt-Roberts has had a varied career already, spanning TV, shorts, comedy sketches, and even stand-up show Nick Offerman: American Ham.
SKULL ISLAND is released 4th November 2016, unless it goes running from Marvel’s latest offering.
