IT’S MORPHIN TIME! It looks as if Lionsgate has officially set the release date for what everyone is truly excited for: POWER RANGERS. That’s right, the release date for the film reboot of everyone’s favourite childhood franchise is July 22, 2016, set just under two years from now. With the date set, it’s likely we’ll hear more news about the filmmakers involved in the coming months, as no director or cast is currently announced, but if it makes you feel any better, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS’ own Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are writing the script, with Roberto Orci recently coming on-board as executive producer.
Orci has made it known that the film will exist in continuity with the TV series, but as there are so many, it’s hard to know which. My money’s on the original series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as that would be the most well-known, but keep coming back for more updates. Now, as promised, the official synopsis is as follows:
From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, THOR) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.
What do you guys think about the POWER RANGERS reboot? Are you excited? Is it worthwhile? Or do you just want to see far more originality in today’s cinema? Let us know in the comments section below!
