This is big. You don’t even know how big. It’s cosmic. A universal-scale influence, if true. This completely slipped under the radar, but Umberto Gonzalez, reporter over at Latino Review, seems to have been informed as to what or who, appears in the Guardians of the Galaxy end credit sequence.
Be wary, possible spoilers ahead for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and perhaps even future films.
Gonzalez tweeted the following, surprising most of his followers and any GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY fans that were paying attention, even surprised us:
I know the rumored GOTG post credit sequence but none of y’all would believe me anyway.

When prompted with a bombardment of sudden requests to post the information, he simply followed up with a single tweet:
RICHARD RIDER!!!
— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) June 17, 2014
That’s right. Richard Rider. Now, some of you might be thinking… “Who?” and rightfully so, I expect quite a significant portion of those not familiar with Marvel, or rather, their cosmic adventurers, know who Richard Rider is… But I do, and in a moment, so will you.
Richard Rider is Nova. He’s a cosmic superhero, apart of the Nova Corp, a cooler-looking Green Lantern-esque equivalent in Marvel’s Universe and whom coincidentally appear in the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, which we know from the trailers. In fact, we can be rather specific in that Glenn Close has been cast as Commander Rael, the leader of the Nova Corps and John C. Reilly will feature as Rhomann Dey, a high-ranking officer of the Nova Corps.
In the comics, Richard Rider is a student at a high school, chosen at random by the alien Rhomann Dey (Wait, isn’t that who John C. Reilly is playing?!), last surviving Nova Centurion of the planet Xandar’s elite Nova Corps, to inherit his power and succeed him in the rank of Nova Prime (the head honcho, basically) following the destruction of his world by the intergalactic pirate Zorr.
Now, as far as we’re aware, Zorr doesn’t feature in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, but Ronan the Accuser does, and is the primary villain. Perhaps Ronan is the means to the end credit scene that may or may not feature Richard Rider. Only time can tell.
The reason why this is so big (and risky) is that Marvel is confidently expanding their cinematic universe on a… well, universal scale. It cements the space-hero as a prominent figure in their universe that isn’t just a mish-mash of alien criminals who band together to fight a common enemy. No. It’s much bigger. The Nova Corps are an intergalactic police force, they govern multiple galaxies. The inclusion of them in the same universe as THE AVENGERS means a lot of things. Mr. Stark, I really hope you don’t have more panic attacks.
Nova has common ties with The Fantastic Four (but they aren’t in the MCU, so those stories are out!), he has romantic ties to Namorita, but more importantly, he features as a defender against Thanos. Yes, the same Thanos that just so happens to have been spotted in THE AVENGERS post credit scene, the same Thanos that is going to feature in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the same Thanos that will most likely be the primary villain in AVENGERS 3.
If that’s not enough for you, just focus for a moment. Marvel have some unannounced projects for 2016, one of which is now most likely DOCTOR STRANGE. But, well… what about the others? Take a look at this photo which was apparently snapped from a board-meeting over at Marvel, I think you’ll find it rather interesting, and if you can, try to make out the date. Need I say more? But of course, most importantly, take this with a huge grain of salt, it could be fake and it very well might be. The GOTG post-credit scene though? I’d like for that to be very real.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set to hit UK cinemas on July 31st and US cinemas on August 1st. It is directed by James Gunn and will features the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.

I know you will not believe a word I am about to say but at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy in Brisbane Australia the movie had 3 ( yes 3 ) end credit scenes. They advertised it on the radio there and I saw all 3 end credit scenes. If I had known at the time that nobody else on the planet would see this I would have recorded it at the time but I didn’t. It was only after buying it on blu ray for the express reason of seeing those 3 end credit scenes again did I find out this was a Brisbane exclusive for some stupid reason. First was the baby Groot scene during the credits. Second was just after the scrolling credits finished and that was Howard the duck. The third was Nova flying in mid air looking into the debris of what was most likely Ronan’s ship.
