‘The Incredibles’ & ‘Ratatouille’ 3D Versions Coming At Yer!

The Incredibles3D has probably outstayed many naysayers predictions, becoming an integral part to the box-office take of any big budget motion picture. However, it isn’t just new releases reaping the benefits of the extra dimension, but also re-releases that take older favourites and go all post-converted on us. One company that’s had a lot of success with this formula is Pixar, the guys behind TOY STORY, MONSTERS INC. and FINDING NEMO. Now they are set to put two more of their animated films through the 3D process as both THE INCREDIBLES and RATATOUILLE are currently in development.

I’m still not a convert when it comes to 3D and I think the last 3D film I saw was STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE upon its re-release a couple of years ago. I’m much more of a 2D kind of guy, and it’s something that Josh Hollander, the man behind Pixar’s 3D conversions has picked up on. Speaking at a 3D Creative Summit in London, Hollander had this to say about the medium.

I think that we as an industry may have lost some of our audience for 3D with releases that didn’t beg for the medium or didn’t warrant the medium or didn’t use the median in a nuanced and sophisticated and comfortable way. I think it’s possible that we drove some folks away from 3D with the higher ticket price or whatever else. But I also think that as the industry settles on a more nuanced approach, I really hope and believe that the audiences will return.

So maybe it’s time I gave the medium another chance, although I expected to do so with the likes of LIFE OF PI and PACIFIC RIM, but decided against it. RATATOUILLE is also one of my least favourite Pixar movies, but I can imagine THE INCREDIBLES would look pretty darn good in 3D.
