Jackman Talks The Inevitable ‘Wolverine’ Recasting

Hugh Jackman

He’s inhabited the role for what will be seven films with the release of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST but Jackman isn’t getting to used to playing the character. Speaking with IGN the Australian star revealed that he knows that there is only a certain amount of time that studios will let him play the mutant hero for, and a new incarnation of Wolverine is inevitable.

He went on to say that he was surprised that Fox wanted him back for the latest Singer instalment stating that he’s sure they had ‘the talk’ behind closed doors. Thankfully for him and us they decided not to go with a younger actor this time round. He went onto say the following:

“Look, that’s inevitable, man. Anyone who thinks they’re indispensable in this business is fooling themselves. But I feel unbelievably blessed to have this part. I never thought in a million years I’d get to play him seven times. Every day I walk on the set with the claws and the  hair, I thank my lucky stars. I don’t take any of it for granted. To think that in a second version we’d have this cast and this director, and you guys don’t know the script, but I would say probably the best script of all of them, is  pretty amazing.”

He continued:

“I think that’s why I’m still here. I’m sure by the way, that it won’t always be my decision to always be here. At some point, someone  will close the door on me.”

So what do you think? Are you ready for a new Wolverine? Or should the character also be retired once Jackman is deemed ‘unable’ to play him? What young star would you be happy with? We at THN are struggling to think of anyone other than Mr. Jackman in the role so we’d appreciate your ideas.
