I’m not the biggest fan of Simon Pegg, nor am I a fan of midlife crises feelgood comedies, so it doesn’t look as though HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS will be for me. However there’s always an audience and I’m sure this trailer for the upcoming comedy in which a man searches the globe for happiness, will have many people excited.
Based on the best selling novel by Francois Lelord, the film takes in many gorgeous locales as well as offering up a strong supporting cast in the form of Jean Reno, Christopher Plummer and Stellan Skarsgard.
The film looks sweet in its own way, but it also seems like some white middle class pandering. Surely a more fascinating take would have been to take the films budget and send a real person around the globe revisiting the places from the novel. Perhaps somebody less well-off, now that would certainly be inspiring. Let’s hope for the best.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
