Four More Join Frank Grillo In ‘The Purge 2’

I Think I Love My Wife World Premiere

Following the surprising sleeper smash THE PURGE, it appeared only natural Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Pictures and Platinum Dunes would want more deadly debauchery in a follow-up film. I found a lot to like in James DeMonaco’s nail-biting home invasion horror. A unique futuristic twist offering the chance to frustrated individuals to dish out some pent up anger for one night of the year, without fear of reprisal from the authorities. The film, made for just $3 million, went on the hit almost $90 million at the box-office alone.

Well, it’s going to happen again with original writer-director DeMonaco currently assembling a cast for the sequel, THE PURGE 2. Earlier last week we brought you news on WARRIOR and THE GREY’s Frank Grillo, soon to be seen butting heads with Steve Rogers in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, landing the lead role this time around and suggesting the plot will focus on a new unlucky victims.

We can now confirm, in addition to Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez have also joined the cast. Williams is fast becoming a fine character actor after his breakout role in acclaimed television series The Wire. He’ll next be seen in Steve McQueen’s 12 YEARS A SLAVE and Jose Padhila’s ROBOCOP reboot. Gilford will be seen in next months found-footage entry DEVIL’S DUE, while British actress Ejogo is currently starring in cult fantasy series Zero Hour. Most will remember Sanchez for her role as Nikki Fernandez in Lost.

THE PURGE 2 is set for cinemas in the US and the UK on the 20th June 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
