While his casting caused much controversy and alienated many faithful fans, Tom Cruise remained passionate in bringing his vision of Lee Child’s literary action hero JACK REACHER. Christopher McQuarrie’s moderately-budgeted thriller was a brilliant B-movie-inspired hit that perhaps didn’t do a well as Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions had hoped. The film, or more specifically Cruise’s international pull in the Far East, helped it to a respectable £215 million worldwide. I must add, I blooming loved it!
Cruise was hoping to launch another franchise and while many suggested the gross may not see that happen, we can confirm Cruise is currently fast-tracking a return for the deadly-skilled drifter. The original film was made for around $50 million and I’m sure the superstar actor, who is about to reunite with Oscar-winning writer/director McQuarrie on a fifth MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, would take a pay cut to assure the character’s return. However, it’s not yet known if McQuarrie would return to helm a sequel.
The novel they’re looking at adapting is ‘Never Go Back’, the most recent of Child’s stories, which sees Reacher heading back to his old military base in Virginia to meet up with an old flame, only to find she’s been arrested and he sets out to investigate.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
