You may remember talk of a JUSTICE LEAGUE film not too long ago, but with this summer’s surprise announcement of BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, it became obvious that DC and Warner Bros. were taking a different approach to their superhero team-up movie. However, you can’t keep a bold rumour down, and with that, talk of another DC character joining the two biggest names in the biz has begun to circulate around the internet. That rumour suggests that Wonder Woman may also have an appearance in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN. But how did such whispering come to pass? Well, Variety got to chat with Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros. When asked if other DC characters would be included in the upcoming film, he had this to say:
We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters and we love them. Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero.
Variety then tried pushing their luck by asking specifically if Wonder Woman would be in the film:
We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about.
As far as non-answers go, that’s a bit of a tease, but no doubt Silverman knows exactly what game he is playing. I wouldn’t be surprised if a memo went round the Warner Bros. lot announcing “Don’t deny or confirm anything.”
BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is to be released on the 17th July 2015. It will star Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, and Laurence Fishburne.
Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
