After picking up the rights to director Olivier Dehan’s biopic GRACE OF MONACO starring Nicole Kidman as the iconic Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, The Weinstein Company originally scheduled the film for a November release in an effort to run one of their powerful Oscar campaigns. They later went on to change their mind and settled on a 14th March release and effectively ruling it out of the upcoming awards season.
Director Dehan has now spoken out regarding the Weinstein Company’s plans. He says they’ve also made significant changes to his film, which charts Kelly’s marriage to Monaco’s Prince Rainier III (played by Tim Roth), during his political dispute with France’s Charles De Gaulle and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s. He’s claiming their cut is a:
Pile of shit. There are two versions of the film for now: mine and his … which I find catastrophic. I want my version of the film and not that of somebody else. It’s not over yet. I haven’t given up.
There is usually only one winner when it comes to The Weinsten Company and that’s usually them. We’ll keep you posted.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
