For those of you locked deep in the world of American dramas on TV, you’d be even better off if you directed your attention towards catching up on BBC Two’s ‘The Fall‘ that aired earlier this year. Set in Belfast, the stunningly tense and intelligent drama starred Gillian Anderson as almost emotionless senior Police officer Stella Gibson, who’s investigating a string of murders in the Northern Irish capital, complete with a perfect English accent.
The show was filmed as a crossover of both her life and the killer, so this wasn’t a ‘whodunit’ but more a psychological play between the lead pair. I haven’t seen anything as tense nor as uncomfortably close to reality, because the characters weren’t over the top. Jamie Dornan (pictured below) plays Paul Spector, a married man with a wife and two young children who methodically tracks down young professional women and kills them.
The Fall was created and written by Allan Cubitt and the opening season was directed quite beautifully by Jakob Verbruggen. Filming on Season Two begins this February after another Irish actor, Emmett J Scanlan revealed it through his Twitter account. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for the second outing and you can find out more info about the series over on the BBC Account by clicking here. Here’s that official tweet that we hope to agree with!
Start shooting @TheFallTV season 2 next February… And by the sound of it, it’s gonna be fucking AWESOME… Can’t wait… @BBCTwo…
