One of the most anticipated films of 2015, if not the decade, is the JJ Abrams led STAR WARS EPISODE VII, which is now housed Disney, but still under the Lucasfilm banner. If these reports are to be believed, the film will now not debut in the previously announced May spot, but later in the year, probably December.
Sources at Bad Ass Digest are reporting that execs at the studio have a mid-December release date for the film penciled in, probably around the 15th or 17th.
We all know that 2015 is chock-full of huge releases, with the likes of THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, JURASSIC PARK 4, TED 2, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5, the MAN OF STEEL sequel and many more slated to hit during the summer. After all, Peter Jackson will be done his ‘ Hobbit’ trilogy the December before, so that leaves a huge opening for Christmas 2015 where nothing major is scheduled for release – and let’s remember, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY made a ton of money last December away from the summer crowd.
The reason for moving may also be down to the fact that a start date on the film has not yet been set, or any major cast members in place (bar the returning Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher).

If not the century? The move would make sense. Coming off a relatively weak and floppy summer, it’s understandable the studios would try and carve out a second time of year to be considered blockbuster season.

Stupid. Every Star Wars movie opens in May. More reason to hate this money machine.
