Following the release of a second more pleasing trailer for THOR: THE DARK WORLD (you can view here), director Alan Taylor has been discussing the films well-publicised troubles and how things are progressing in the lead up to release day.
On the editing process:
“(we’re) in the crazy chicken running around with no head kind of stage which I think is not an uncommon place for Marvel. They have this ability to always work down to the wire. Kevin Feige (Marvel head) is always trying to make the film better.”
The much talked about reshoots:
“we’re shooting some things this week with Anthony Hopkins… we continue to, what Kevin Feige calls, plus the movie. We’re adding new scenes and I’m sure if there was no release date we’d just keep making it better and better.”
“they (Marvel) seem to have a process where they make the movie, see what they’ve got and are totally open to the process of rewriting even after production and they preserve time and money for that. It’s never, thankfully, reshoots due to mistakes it’s additional photography… adding something to make this happen (etc.). It’s not a process I’m used to but they’re really good at what they do.”
On the length of the film and disagreements:
“there was talk that I was clinging onto a longer cut, but Disney wanted a shorter cut, but hilariously that was never an issue because there was never a running time, and the changes taking place now are not to do with the running time. There are some tonal pushes and relationships we have to end in the right way… the one fallout I had with Marvel was over the music. I had a composer I really wanted to go with and it didn’t work out for Marvel so I was unhappy about that.”
New scenes with Tom Hiddleston:
“we were filming whole new scenes (a few weeks back)… we’re adding, creating new scenes now… we realised how well Loki (Hiddleston) was working in the movie so we were like ‘we could do this with him’. (the fans love him) you can hear the applause levels go up as he arrives on stage.”
So there you have it, a brief chat with our friends at Collider has quashed many of the ‘Thor in distress’ headlines from recent weeks but touched upon the addition of more Loki for the fans. But what do you think. Is this all chat from Taylor and are there genuine concerns for the film, or do you have full faith in the finished product? Let us know below.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.
