Arguably 2012’s funniest film, 21 JUMP STREET introduced us to Channing Tatum’s funny bone and what dynamic directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller were capable of when it came to live action. Though not returning to direct the follow-up to 2009 animation CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, the pair have confirmed their return to 21 JUMP STREET sequel, 22 JUMP STREET – named as such “because they move across the street.” Inspired.

The pair may be tight-lipped on details, but we already know the second undercover cop romp will take place in college. It will also see Ice Cube returning in an expanded role as the eternally pissed off Captain Dickson, with Lord and Miller finding “new and wonderful ways for Jonah Hill to drive him insane.”

Though no other names had been thrown about in regards to helming the project, Lord and Miller weren’t officially signed on to direct until a month ago. Finding it difficult to decide where to tread the line between familiarity from the first film and something entirely different, the pair said they’d only sign on the dotted line when completely happy with the sequel’s script.

Reported to get as “emotionally deep” into Hill and Tatum’s bromance as possible, 22 JUMP STREET is scheduled to start production in September. And as for a return for Korean Jesus, well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
