THE WOLVERINE had its opening weekend and did it smash the box office? Not by 20th Century Fox’s standards, as it only grossed a measly $55 million. Fox were hoping for at least $70 million, but it still proved good enough to take first place in the US box office, and worldwide took a total of $141.1 million. Seeing as it cost $120 million to make, Fox shouldn’t feel too downhearted about its performance at the weekend.
When X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE was released four years ago, it was famously leaked online, which potentially damaged the takings at the box office. However, it still took $85 million in its first weekend, $30 million more than THE WOLVERINE.
Whilst we’re talking about box office successes, THE CONJURING, which cost only $20 million to make, was in at second this weekend in the US box office, and has so far grossed a worldwide total of $96 million.

If anything it helped X-Men Origins make more, tired of hearing that it hurt it that it leaked online.
