Here is the first image from PASSION, the new movie from Brian De Palma. It features Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams going in for a smooch. This is not without it’s charm.
But let’s not get all laddish about this. PASSION is the first film from Brian De Palma (you remember him, right? SCARFACE? THE UNTOUCHABLES?) since his 2007 effort REDACTED, a political war film which didn’t do him any favours. His current project is a remake of Alain Corneu’s 2010 French drama ‘LOVE CRIME,’ starring Ludivine Sagnier and Kristin Scott-Thomas, with whom De Palma worked on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE (1996).
It stars Rachel McAdams (THE NOTEBOOK, SHERLOCK HOLMES) as Christine and Noomi Rapace (PROMETHEUS, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) as Isabelle. Heres the official synopsis:
“An erotic thriller in the tradition of DRESSED TO KILL and BASIC INSTINCT, Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out. On the night of the murder, Isabelle is at the ballet, while Christine receives an invitation to seduction. From whom? Christine loves surprises. Naked she goes to meet the mystery lover waiting in her bedroom…”
The thing about erotic thrillers is that there’s usually an imbalance of power, usually due to someone being unbalanced. That almost-kiss looks quite uneasy, so expect there to be more character driven drama than softcore girl-on-girl (that’s a GOOD thing, by the way). There’s a danger that PASSION will be known as That movie where the girl off The Notebook and that girl with the dragon tattoo make sexy times. Expect the trailer to debut shortly (and for it to get a high hit count. Dirty sods).
McAdams and Rapace will be reuniting after their appearances in SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS. PASSION also stars Dominic Cooper and is pencilled in for a February 2013 release.
