‘Curse Of Chucky’ Goes Old School!

I’ve a real soft spot for the demonic doll franchise that originated with Tom Holland’s 1988 hit horror, CHILD’S PLAY. While the unmistakable raspy tones of Brad Dourif has undeniably led to much of my admiration, there’s fun to had in most of Chucky’s demented adventures that has now notoriously (and perhaps unfairly) become forever linked to one of Britian’s most heinous crimes. Could that have been the reason for the more comic change of direction with Ronny Yu’s enjoyable reboot, BRIDE OF CHUCKY?

Whatever the answer, Chucky’s no longer the little terror he once was. However, that’s all about to change as creator Don Mancini is about to bring back the sadistic side of the cherub-looking ‘Good Guy’ doll for CURSE OF CHUCKY. We recently brought you the first look at the sequel (that features the plot synopsis below) and now we’ve a few behind-the-scenes pics from the film being released on all US formats by Universal from the 24th September. We’re promised this is a much darker tale closer to the tone of the original.

Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in tow to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (voiced again by Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
