Zac Efron certainly has come a long way since his role as a teeny bopper heartthrob in the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL series. Currently filming TOWNIES alongside Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne today he announced his latest project.
Coasting into gear alongside Amber Heard, Efron will star in AUTOBAHN; getting into trouble as an American backpacker who gets more than he bargained for in a drugs deal gone awry. He and girlfriend Heard must escape the Turkish Gang, presumably at high speeds in fast cars along German motorways.
Directed by Eran Creevy, who is no stranger to the crime genre with a back catalogue of SHIFTY and WELCOME TO THE PUNCH, filming is expected to begin later this year with a release set for 2014.
Before Autobahn’s release viewers can catch Zac making the most of bachelor life in Tom Gormican’s ARE WE OFFICIALLY DATING? and as the first Doctor to examine the JFK after his fatal assassination attempt in PARKLAND. Co-star Heard, best known to audiences for her role in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, also has a busy 2013 with films including PARANOIA (alongside Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford) and MCG’s THREE DAYS TO KILL due for release.
