Michael Douglas takes the lead as the late extravagant showman Liberace in Steven Soderbergh’s possible swan-song, BEHIND THE CANDELABRA. The film, based on the life of the flamboyant entertainer and his gay lover Scott Thorston (who is portrayed in the film by Soderbergh’s frequent collaborator Matt Damon), covers their turbulent decade-long relationship which ended in 1987 with the iconic pianists death from the Aids virus. HBO, who financed the film after it struggled to film an American theatrical distributor, airs the biopic in the US on 26th May. However, Entertainment One landed the UK rights and will release the film in cinemas 7th June. Rob Lowe, Dan Ackroyd, Debbie Reynolds and Scott Bakula also co-star.
