Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Grabs Michael Rooker

It’s not much of a surprise considering he’s previously worked with James Gunn on SLITHER and SUPER, but the superb Michael Rooker has joined the cast of Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, which Gunn will write and direct. Perhaps best known for his uncompromising role in John McNaughton’s notorious HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, Rooker will play Yondu, one of the founding members of the original intergalactic superhero gang. He’s currently a favourite on television too, following his redneck role of Merle Dixon in acclaimed zombie series, THE WALKING DEAD.

He’ll will appear opposite Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and AVATAR and STAR TREK beauty Zoe Saldana (said to be in final talks for Gamora). The film is will begin production in the UK in a matter of weeks and is expected in cinemas from the 1st August 2014

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
