Always an author to divide opinion, cause controversy and shock readers, TRAINSPOTTING author Irvine Welsh sees his novel FILTH brought to the big-screen via CASS writer/director Jon S. Baird. The story centres on bipolar, bigoted and junkie cop, Bruce Robertson, a destructive and angry Scotsman who manipulates, snorts and shags his way through the festive season in a bid to secure promotion and win back his family.
James McAvoy, hot off his recent acclaimed roles in WELCOME TO THE PUNCH and TRANCE, headlines as Robertson, alongside a superb British ensemble which includes Imogen Poots, Jamie Bell, Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Joanne Froggett and Pollyanna McIntosh. Welsh has praised the film, saying even he was blown away. It’s expected in UK cinemas from September.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
