Original ‘Godzilla’ Star Akira Takarada Cast In Reboot

If you thought the American reboot of GODZILLA couldn’t grab a bigger star than the gigantic atomic breathed monster, then you’d be wrong. Legendary Pictures have tweeted a picture of director Gareth Edwards alongside the star of the original 1954 classic, Akira Takarada. Takarada will take on an unspecified role in the reboot, which will suit him just fine as he has appeared in a number of Godzilla films, each time playing a different character. He played Hideo Ogata, at the age of 20, in GODZILLA (1954), took on the part of Ichiro Sakai in MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA (1964), Yoshimura in EBIRAH, HORROR OF THE DEEP (1966), Jyoji Minamino in GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA (1992), and Naotaro Daigo in the last Godzilla film, GODZILLA: FINAL WARS (2014).

If you’re a Godzilla fan, like I am, then the image below will fill you with delight. Hitting 79 years of age at the end of the month will have no bearing on his Godzilla-ass-kicking capabilities.

GODZILLA will be released 16th May 2014. It stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston, and David Strathairn.

His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies.
