She maybe worshipped in the literary world and perhaps has her devotees in cinema, but the majority of film fans have yet to be impressed by the work of Stephenie Meyer, when transported onto the big-screen. Thankfully, her latest adaptation has some decent talent onboard this time around, with a leading lady in Saoirse Ronan, who can actually show more that one emotion. There are no wooden and woefully CGI’ed werewolves or pasty-faced, love-sick saps either (well, we hope not anyway).
THE HOST is written and directed by Andrew Niccol and sees Ronan as survivor Melanie Stryder, who after a war with an extraterrestrial race, is one of the few remaining humans with ability to wrestle with soul of her invader after being injected with an alien parasite. Humans have become the hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of the globe has succumbed, but Melanie is unique, and will lead a resistance to rescue humanity.
Here we have the third trailer for the science-fiction thriller co-starring Jake Abel, Max Irons, Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook, William Hurt and invades cinemas 29th March.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
