‘Justice League’ In Doubt As Will Beall’s Script Is Scrapped

Reports are surfacing that Warner Brothers have tossed out GANGSTER SQUAD scribe Will Beall’s screenplay for their collaborative comic-book epic, JUSTICE LEAGUE. While it was expected the picture would only be green-lit if Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot MAN OF STEEL was a success (a given we say), it appears the studio behind DC’s catalogue of superheroes are not at all pleased with his work. Whether the failure of GANGSTER SQUAD has anything to do with their decision remains to be seen.

For those living in caves, JUSTICE LEAGUE or JLA, would unite a team consisting of Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and of course Kryptonian Kal-El, amongst a few others. It was also revealed recently that Beall’s script would see our heroes take on the fiendish might of Darkseid.

This is another set-back for a studio desperate for some quick AVENGERS-style success. While Marvel Studios took their time (seven films) in setting up their superhero hit squad, Warner’s wanted to jump straight in after MAN OF STEEL. This despite one of their major characters failing spectacularly at the box-office. Yes, GREEN LANTERN, we’re looking at you. Whether Warner’s go back to the drawing board and give it another go, only time will tell. However, we suggest (and in all honesty, suspect) Barry Allen’s THE FLASH should be given a solo outing first.

We wait with intrigue and don’t expect Warner Bros. to confirm this anytime soon, if at all.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
