Rupert Wyatt To Tackle WWI Adaptation ‘Birdsong’

Rupert Wyatt

Rupert Wyatt burst onto the Hollywood mainstream with excellent THE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, but while he decided to walk away from that film’s sequel, he has now found his next project and it is definitely something completely different. BIRDSONG is based on Sebastian Faulks’ book of the same name and centres on a Englishman who engages in an affair with a married French woman, before he goes on to become an officer on the frontline during World War I. The novel was adapted into a two-part mini series on BBC starring Eddie Redmayne, Clemence Poesy, and Matthew Goode in 2011, and the new version is backed by the British production company, Embankment Films, and is based on a script by Wyatt himself.

It sounds like an interesting project for the English born director, and while THE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was a more effects driven film, the human (human/monkey?) story beneath the surface was what made it so good so I am certain he can do well with this. We will update you on any developments with the project right here on this site.

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.
