Thanks to the dreadful TWILIGHT saga, whenever a new project centred on sexy and seductive vampires is given the green-light, we’re always going to be more than a little sceptical. However, when a talent like Neil Jordan is at the helm, we can rest a little easier. The Oscar-winning writer and director of classics, THE CRYING GAME, THE COMPANY OF THE WOLVES and INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, returns to the genre he’s had much critical and commercial success in.
BYZANTIUM sees Gemma Arterton and Saorise Ronan as Eleanor and Clara, a pair of immortal lost souls travelling the country with a bloodthirsty secret. After wandering into a lonely coastal resort, they meet Frank (Caleb Landry Jones), who soon learns of their harvesting of human blood, and could be about to force their twisted, mother and daughter relationship into a dark, tormented direction. It’s expected in cinemas in the UK on the 3rd May, while a US date is still awaited.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
