Many Trekkies may believe director J.J. Abrams has turned to the ‘dark side’ with the recent confirmation that he’ll helm Disney’s STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, but don’t give up on him just yet. After all, there is still his follow-up to the impressive 2010 STAR TREK reboot, to come in the summer.
The sci-fi sequel will pit Chris Pine’s Captain James T. Kirk, not forgetting Enterprise crewmates Spock, Scotty, Bones, Uhura, Chekov and Sulu, against Benedict Cumberbatch’s still mysterious villain. Just to whet your appetite for the anticipated effort, check out this behind-the-scenes featurette with cast and crew, giving some details on what to expect.
STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS will venture to cinemas on the 17th May and co-stars Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller and Bruce Greenwood.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Why the hell wouldn’t JJA be “allowed” to do both? With his Star Trek reboot, he has brilliantly demonstrated that he can do great space opera, so I believe he’s the best and most obvious choice to put some greatness back into the Star Wars franchise and repair all the damage done by grandpa Lucas. BTW, you have a funny way of writing VII…
