SAW and INSIDIOUS director James Wan may be putting the finishing touches to spookfest THE CONJURING (as well as prepping INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2) but he is also producing an upcoming project currently titled HOUSE OF HORROR. The film is to be directed by Will Canon, from a script by Max La Bella and based on an original idea of Wan’s, and will begin shooting at the end of the month in Baton Rouge, L.A.

We now can confirm the lead cast members as THE GREY and ZERO DARK THIRTY actor Frank Grillo, who is also set to play the villain Crossbones in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. He’ll be joined by blonde beauty Maria Bello, best known for her roles in COYOTE UGLY and A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE.

The plot goes as follows:

The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying, and the suspect claims the responsibility doesn’t lie with any of the inhabitants, but with the house itself.

Grillo will take the role of suspicious detective Lewis, while Bello will portray psychologist Klein.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
