The THN staffs number three arrived with considerable hype, a five film back story, and Samuel L. Jackson sporting an eye-patch:
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE – dir. Joss Whedon starring Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner
Joss Whedon makes his second appearance, alongside Chris Hemsworth, in our top 5 with a movie boasting a $220 million budget and the hopes of Disney and Marvel behind it; $200 million on it’s opening weekend in the US, and $1.48billion total worldwide it definitely succeeded.
Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army.
Content Coordinator Craig Hunter couldn’t hide his love:
One of the greatest superhero movie of all-time with jaw-dropping visuals, solid casting and an action-packed script from Joss Whedon. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk steals the show from under the nose of Robert Downey Jr. as Earth is faced with the menace of thespian master Tom Hiddleston. Marvel-ous stuff!
Isra, News, Reviews and Features, managed to ignore any issues and revel in the fun:
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE did a great job assembling Marvel’s already acquainted heroes; a well written script from Joss Whedon, 100% commitment from the actors and a perfect villain meant the overly comic punchlines and teeny tiny potholes were all forgotten.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE won’t surprise anyone in the best of list, but these two raised eyebrows in the office for the worst of the year:
TED – dir. Seth MacFarlane starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Set MacFarlane
With big expectations Assistant Editor Jazmine couldn’t hide her disappointment at Seth MacFarlane’s profanity riddled comedy:
I’ve got a ‘blokey’ sense of humour as it is and all my guy friends told me it was HILARIOUS. It was okay, but nowhere near as funny as it should have been
THE WOMAN IN BLACK – dir. James Watkins starring Daniel Radcliffe, Janet McTeer, Ciaran Hinds
Reviews and Features writer Claire didn’t get swept up in the post-Potter love fest:
The return of Hammer Horror falters with this by-the-numbers ghost story. Even the inclusion of some J-horror motifs can’t save the descent into banality.
Keep it THN tomorrow for our Number 2 and find the whole countdown here.
