Here’s some exciting breaking news here on THN for a late Friday. Deadline have confirmed that the director of the planned big screen remake of the 1980s TV show THE EQUALIZER is… Nicolas Winding Refn. Yes, the director PUSHER and the superb DRIVE, easily my fave film of last year.
Denzel Washington plays the character made famous by Edward Woodward in the film, which is about a mysterious former covert operations officer who helps people in trouble in the city of New York.
Love this news! I was actually a fan of the show (yes, I’m just old enough), and Woodward was kick-ass in the role, something I expect Denzel to be just as much. I just hope Refn brings some of that 80s vibe to the film, something that was so at the heart of the superb DRIVE.
The film is housed at Sony.
