Great Hera! Another Wonder Woman TV Pilot In Development

Following on from the car crash that was David E. Kelley’s 2011 WONDER WOMAN TV Pilot for NBC, it seems as though DC Comics and Warner Bros aren’t quite content to let this one die.

Sources report that the CW (the network behind the similarly themed SMALLVILLE) are developing a radical new TV Series based on WONDER WOMAN, under the working title AMAZON.  The show will apparently revisit Diana of Themiscyra, way back before she donned the classic costume and ventured out from the island of Themiscyra (home of the powerful and protective Amazons) into the strange and dangerous world of Men. Basically it’s SMALLVILLE with lots of sword fighting, monsters, and a hint of CLASH OF THE TITANS. (Which sounds awesome!)

The show is only in development stage at the moment, but writer Allan Heinberg (GREY’S ANATOMY, THE O.C.) seems an inspired choice for the show, especially after his run on YOUNG AVENGERS comics for Marvel in 2005.

If AMAZON gets commissioned, it’ll be an interesting one to look out for – after the campy 70s show with Linda Carter and the aforementioned Kelley monstrosity (for the love of Hippolyta, don’t seek it out!), it’s well about time for a decent WONDER WOMAN film or TV series!  We here at THN have our fingers crossed!

From an early age, Matt Dennis dreamt of one day becoming a Power Ranger. Having achieved that dream back in the noughties, he’s now turned his hand to journalism and broadcasting. Matt can often be found in front of a TV screen, watching his current favourite shows such as DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, SHERLOCK, DAREDEVIL, and THE WALKING DEAD, though he’s partial to a bit of vintage TV from yesteryear. Matt also co-presents the Geek Cubed podcast, which you can download from iTunes. It’s quite nice.
