It seems that Jesse Eisenberg can’t help but star in award-worthy cinema nowadays. After ADVENTURELAND and ZOMBIELAND (both 2009) were nominated for Teen Choice awards, he went on to feature in 34-times nominated THE SOCIAL NETWORK (2010) – and he’s not stopping there. We can now bring you the brand new trailer for his upcoming comedy WHY STOP NOW, which has been officially selected at the Sundance Film Festival.
Eisenberg stars as Eli, a high school piano genius living with his drug addicted mother, Penny (Melissa Leo). On the day of his big recital he decides to send her away to rehab, to clean up not only her life but his too. However, it appears the facility won’t take her in. You’d think they’d give up and go home, but oh no! They enlist the help of one person: Penny’s drug dealer, Sprinkles (Tracy Morgan). Along with Sprinkles’ side-kick Black (Isiah Whitlock Jr.) the foursome go on the road on a journey full of laughter, some fear and plenty of alcohol.
Directed by Phil Dorling (who also wrote the screenplay) and Ron Nyswaner (wrote the screenplay for THE PAINTED VEIL (2006)), the film looks entertaining up to a point. I’m already a fan of Eisenberg but Eli seems to be very similar to other characters he’s already played. At a risk of being type-cast, I hope Jesse chooses something slightly different for his next project, if only to see him outside his comfort zone.
WHY STOP NOW is due for a US release from 17th August. It is currently awaiting a UK release date.
Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging.
Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
