Cruise and RDJ Voted ‘El Presidente’?

Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr have been rumoured to take the leads in comedy-action flick EL PRESIDENTE. When a ‘gung-ho, by-the-book’ secret service agent is assigned to protect America’s ‘worst former President’, the task of cleaning up after the sleazy politician’s affairs turns into a life or death situation.

Though it’s worth noting neither actors are officially confirmed for the roles, Warner Bros are apparently keen to sign on Cruise to star as the SS agent and Robert Downey Jr to appear as the former president. Hopefully the attached A-listers will put wheels into motion on this long-rumoured project.

EL PRESIDENTE is the brainchild of (the recently renewed!) PARKS AND RECREATION producer and writer Dan Goor. PARKS fans may be interested to know Goor wrote the critically acclaimed ‘Harvest Festival’ and ‘Lil’ Sebastian’ episodes of the TV comedy ,which provides high hopes for this new project. MEET THE PARENTS director Jay Roach is attached to direct after recently completing Sarah Palin TV drama GAME CHANGE. Roach is currently working on another political comedy, THE CAMPAIGN, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, so he seems to have the niche genre locked down.
