More Marvel Movies On The Way!

With AVENGERS ASSEMBLE dominating the box-office, it comes as no surprise there are even more Marvel productions on the way. Confirmed to begin shooting in just over a week’s time is IRON MAN 3, this time be helmed by Shane Black. We also have THOR 2 and CAPTAIN AMERICA 2, both scheduled for 2014/15 respectively. Marvel chief Kevin Feige has given the following titbit, teasing fans even further.

We want to do two films a year. Avengers is our only film this year, but in a week and a half we begin filming Iron Man 3. By the end of the summer we’ll be working on the next Thor film, early next year the next Captain America film. Those are the three we’ve announced so far; we’ve got two beyond that that we haven’t announced yet, but we’re working on.

We expect the Avengers to assemble again sometime in the future, but what is most telling is that Feige talks of another two untitled projects in the works and expected summer 2014/15. Rumours are now rife that those two features will be an all-new adventure involving Mark Ruffalo and ol’ green skin, THE INCREDIBLE HULK. The ZODIAC actor has recently signed a deal to return as Bruce Banner in a number of Marvel projects, and after Joss Whedon’s all-star superhero epic, he deserves a stand-alone picture.

The second is expected to be the much-anticipated ANT-MAN, to which Edgar Wright has been attached for some time. The SHAUN OF THE DEAD director has recently hinted that film is currently being prepared for a shoot later this year. ANT-MAN was originally a founding member of the Avengers, and if his own feature gets the go-ahead, expect him to also feature as part of the team in the AVENGERS ASSEMBLE sequel.

The latter two projects are, of course, just speculation at present but with a Marvel casting call just announced in London, we suspect that will be for Edgar Wright’s shrinking specialist, Dr Henry Pym.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
