Still here? I salute your commitment. Okay, here we go.

This January, we reported that Liam Neeson confirmed his involvement with the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman saga. Well, we have double confirmation that the TAKEN star and surprising sex symbol will definitely reprise the role of Ra’s Al Ghul. Click here to see the original report, fresh with Nesson quotage.

Well now, Warner Bros. have confirmed his involvement beyond a shadow of a doubt, as they included the movie on a list of Nesson film credits on the promotional material for WRATH OF THE TITANS. Here’s the salient paragraph, Bat-fans.

Neeson next appears in Peter Berg’s actioner “Battleship,” and he also will be seen in Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated action thriller “The Dark Knight Rises.”

So, rumour confirmed. Ra’s Al Ghul will rise from the dead. Metaphorically speaking, possibly? Let us explain. There are three possibilities here;

  1. In the comics, Al Ghul rises from the dead using a neat plot device called The Lazarus Pit. However, given Nolan’s gritty real-world feel to his adaptations, this is pretty unlikely.
  2. Al Ghul didn’t technically die onscreen at the end of BATMAN BEGINS, so he could have… jumped out of the train before it crashed, maybe? And survived? Or stayed onboard but wasn’t killed in the crash? No? No, probably not. But you never know.
  3. He appears in flashback. Neeson said in the previous report that he ‘was on set for maybe an hour and a half…’ so his screen time will be oh so limited. We also told you that his daughter Talia will appear as a child, played by ten year old Joey King. Given her age and the time difference between BEGINS and RISES, she can only really appear in a flashback. This is the most likely solution to a riddle so fiendish, Edward Nygma would be joy-gasming.

Everything will be revealed when THE DARK KNIGHT RISES swoops into cinemas on the 20th of July. It stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and, definitely, Liam Neeson.
